Tshepo Mashigo

Tshepo is a labour consultant who facilitates training for LexisNexis and serves as a part-time senior commissioner at the CCMA. He has been appointed as a mediator on the court-annexed mediation panel under the auspices of the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development.

He offers ER advice to a range of private sector companies in the airline, mining and manufacturing sectors. He also recently reviewed  ER policies and procedures in the mining industry. Initially working as an educator in the North-West, Tshepo joined the CCMA in 1996 as an interpreter and translator. He was promoted to Commissioner in 1999. During his tenure, he arbitrated and conciliated various kinds of labour disputes. 

Tshepo was an appointed panellist for the dispute resolution centres during the construction of Medupi and Kusile, as well as appointed under the Project Labour Agreement on the Gautrain. In this capacity he conducted section 188A Inquiry by Arbitrator processes, conciliations and arbitrations.

From 2002 to 2007, he worked as Employee Relations Manager for Rustenburg Base Metal Refiners, one of Anglo Platinum’s Refiners. During his stint as ER Manager, he maintained sound relations between Anglo Platinum’s management and stakeholders, including the NUM, NUMSA, UASA and Solidarity. His responsibilities included representing the Company at the CCMA, wage negotiations and internal stakeholder meetings. He served as a committee member representing the company in renegotiating their Employee Relations Policy Agreement. Tshepo is well regarded in the field for his involvement in Coca-Cola SA’s Employee Relations Policy, managing disciplinary processes at Total South Africa and Employment Relations facilitation at Murray Roberts Cementation. 

He is experienced in conducting RBO processes in the mining sector and training shop stewards and line managers on employee relations policies and procedures.
