Raynold Bracks1

Ronnie is an Advocate of the High Court and since 2009 a part-time senior commissioner at the CCMA. He sits on various bargaining council panels. He is a CCMA commissioner trainer, a CCMA ETD Assessor and on the vetting panel and develops training material for the CCMA. He is a lecturer at the Wits and Stellenbosch University Commissioner’s programme. He has hosted several radio programmes.

Ronnie obtained his articles with the firm Israel During & Kossuth and, in February 1986, was admitted to practice as an attorney of the High Court. Thereafter he worked as legal advisor at Munich Reinsurance Co of Africa in Johannesburg, the world’s biggest reinsurer, as well as for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) in the capacity of its’ Chief Legal Advisor. As Chief Legal Advisor, he also served on the Group Executive Committee of the SABC and on the Board of the SABC as a representative member of the SABC’s management. After this he joined the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority as the Deputy Director and Legal Officer. 

During 1994 Raynold was requested to assist the Public Enterprises Unit of the Swaziland government in the drafting of insurance legislation for that country. He was also tasked to draft the Memorandum and Articles for the same Company. At this time he was also called upon by the College of Insurance and The Transvaal Institute to lecture a course called “Law and Insurance”. The course was initially on General Law but later focused mainly on Contract Law and Insurance Law in general. He has done various presentations and training courses both internally and externally on various topics of a legal nature for the staff and management and on behalf of the SABC to third parties. Other statutory bodies where he did presentations for and on behalf of the SABC is the Communications Portfolio Committee and the Independent Communication Authority of South Africa (ICASA). Ronnie is also the co-author of an Article entitled The Position of HIV/AIDS, Employees in South African Companies: A Legal & Empirical Survey in the SA Journal of Labour Relations. 

He has also been the Chairperson on various NGO and Community Projects.
