Johnny is a part time commissioner with the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) and is on the panel of various bargaining councils. He is a CCMA-approved trainer and facilitator. Johnny worked for the CCMA, initially as the Senior Case Management Officer, then as a Provincial Registrar and later as a Level A Commissioner.

Johnny is the Chairperson of the Safety and Security Sectoral Bargaining Council (SSSBC) where he chairs their EXCO and Council meetings. He also chairs negotiations and strategic planning meetings as well as many other meetings such as AGMs and national events.
