James Matshekga is an admitted advocate of the North Gauteng High Court, a part-time Senior Commissioner at the CCMA and panellist of various bargaining councils in both the private and public sectors, including the South African Local Government Bargaining Council (SALGBC), Public Service Co-ordinating Bargaining Council (PSCBC), Safety and Security Sectoral Bargaining Council (SSSBC), and General Public Service Sectoral Bargaining Council (GPSSBC). James also serves as a part-time resident panellist of the Public Health and Social Development Sectoral Bargaining Council (PHSDSBC).

James has vast experience and expertise in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution and serves as a panellist of private dispute resolution bodies. He is also a member of the advisory committee of the South African Law Reform Commission’s Project 25, which is responsible for legislative review of all legislation administered by the Department of Labour.

An established scholar, James has taught various legal subjects at leading universities in South Africa, including University of Cape Town, University of South Africa, Tshwane University of Technology, and University of Johannesburg and has published widely in scholarly journals.

James has more than 15 years’ experience as a disciplinary and appeal hearings chairperson for various institutions in the public and private sector including the Department of Health, Department of Defence, SARS, the Trans-Caledon Tunnel Authority, the Academy of Science of South Africa, MTN, University of Johannesburg, Wits University and Eskom.

James served as a Board Member of Athletics Gauteng North (AGN) and is its current Deputy President and the chairperson of Arcadia Running Club.
