David Woolfrey is a practising attorney, specialising in employment law, commercial law and sports law. He is an accredited mediator and arbitrator, Tokiso panellist, and was a part-time CCMA Commissioner from its inception in 1996 to 2000. He was also a member of the team that trained CCMA and bargaining council commissioners in 1996 and 1997. 

David has been associated with the Institute of Development and Labour Law at the University of Cape Town since 1990, as an Associate Member, in which capacity he has participated in the Institute’s training and law reform initiatives in the sub-continent.

From 2000 to 2020 David was retained by the South African Rugby Employers’ Organisation which represents professional rugby interests in the country. In that capacity he negotiated and drafted collective bargaining agreements, and advised on sports law related matters.

 David has published widely in the field of employment law and was a co-author of the leading labour law text, Labour Relations Law (Du Toit et al, 1st to 4th editions).
