Attie has over 20 years of experience guiding senior corporate clients and trade unions in dispute resolution processes and has a deep understanding of the challenges posed by the very complex and distinct South African Employment Relations environment.
His work demonstrates an ability to guide individuals, teams, organisations and trade union leadership through the steps necessary to deal constructively with labour disputes and thus create a stable labour relations system.
Attie’s clients span all major industries such as mining; transport; aviation; manufacturing; construction; oil, gas and chemicals; financial services; government; telecommunication and health care.
Attie worked with many leading companies and all major trade unions in Southern Africa as well as organisations such as The Human Rights Commission.
Attie’s key appointments include: Senior Commissioner for the South African Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration; arbitrator and mediator for the South African Education Labour Relations Council; Mediator for the Chamber of Mines; Chairman of the Transnet Bargaining Council, Panellist of TOKISO Dispute Resolution, Chairman of the South African Airways Negotiating Forum, mediator for the Metal & Engineering Industries Bargaining Council; and panellist for the National Bargaining Council for the Chemical Industry.
Attie holds a Doctorate in Sociology from the University of Stellenbosch and a BProc Law degree from the University of South Africa and has held the position of Associate Professor and Professor Extraordinaire in Industrial Sociology at the University of Pretoria lecturing Industrial Relations. His full qualifications include BA (1980), BA Hons (1982), MA (1984), DPhil (1988), B.Proc (1996).
